Due to Covid19, our first ten day Costa Rica Panama tour is finally scheduled for 2021 with anticipation of a Covid19 vaccine being widely available by the first tour scheduled September 10 - 19, 2021 . We will likely add more dates as things get back to normal but for now we just have that one date scheduled. Pre Covid19 we were offering this very popular tour every other month. We suggest you book travel insurance if you book this tour early since we are relying on a vaccine being available in time for that date.
Costa Rica recently announced they will no longer require a health insurance policy (as of August 1, 2021) as long as you can show a completed vaccination card showing you've been vaccinated at least 14 days before your arrival into Costa Rica.
I’m letting all know who’d applied for our 10 day Costa Rica Panama tour that ended up being canceled (due to Covid) as well as those who have signed up for our September 2021 tour that we have now confirmed we’re going to run that tour September 10 – 19. If you want to join us after reading the details below, please submit your tour application via the link toward the end of this email. There are some important requirements for this upcoming tour, as a result of Covid19 so keep these requirements in mind if you plan to submit a tour application. The added requirements due to the pandemic are listed below and are not included in the tour fee, so do be aware that you will be responsible for these extra expenses. I’m also asking all who want to join the tour to be vaccinated. The Covid situation in both Costa Rica and Panama is not as good as in the US. Vaccinations are scarce and the pandemic is still an issue in both countries. You must have a passport to travel outside the US and it can’t be expiring within 6 months of the arrival date per Costa Rican rules. You need no immunizations for either Costa Rica or Panama and no Covid test is required to enter Costa Rica, though both Panama and your return to the US will require a negative Covid19 test. We will facilitate these tests on our tour but the cost of the actual tests are not included in the tour fee.CURRENT Costa Rica requirements. If you are not vaccinated and/or don't have a current vaccine card showing you are vaccinated, you'll have to purchase a travelers insurance policy to cover you for every day you are in Costa Rica. This requirement mandates you have a policy that will provide $2,000 in emergency lodging, in the event you have to quarantine. You also have to carry $50,000 in medical expense insurance, in the event you contract Covid19 while in Costa Rica. You still also need to fill out a health questionnaire online within the 72 hour period prior to arriving in Costa Rica. Anyone entering Costa Rica must complete the online “Health Pass” epidemiological form: https://salud.go.cr. Again this must be completed within 72 hours of your arrival to Costa Rica and you will be issued a QR code that you'll have to show on arrival.
- Panama is CURRENTLY requiring that anyone entering Panama by land have a negative Covid19 test within 48 hours before crossing the border. We’ll all need to take a Covid19 test in Uvita, 2 days before our crossing, which I will arrange. The cost of this test has been $72 but of course, the cost is out of my control (and may change) and this fee is not included in the tour fee.
- The US is CURRENTLY requiring anyone returning to the US have a negative Covid19 test within 48 hours of arrival back to the US, even those who can prove they are fully vaccinated. Getting this test in Panama is easy but again at your expense and roughly $75 per person. I will arrange for our group to get tested, so unless you plan to stay longer in Panama after the tour ends, (I offer a discount rate at our hotel of $75 per night for anyone who wants to stay longer) but your Covid test to enter the USA will still be required and we won’t be transporting you to a test site, though there are many options for this test in Panama and pretty easy for you to handle on your own.
- I typically don’t run anyone’s credit card until 30 days before the tour but for this tour, I am going to collect half the tour fee on or around August 1, with the balance collected on September 1. Cancellations after August 1st will incur a fee of 50% of the tour fee (the deposit). Cancellations after September 1st will incur a cancellation fee of 75% of the tour fee. I have to book and pay for most of the hotels we use months in advance, so cancellations have a real cost and keep others who were interested in joining the tour from being able to do so. This tour will be sold out and expect roughly 16 people on the tour, plus the driver
For those who are on this tour, you’ll need to book a flight into San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO airport code) to arrive anytime on the 10th of September. The only event that day is a cocktail party at the hotel Martino that night. Dinner is not included on that first night but the hotel Martino has a nice restaurant. If you arrive early on the 19th, there’s a fun zoo across the street from the hotel that you can visit, entrance fee is roughly $20 per person for non-residents.
You’ll need a flight departing Panama City on the 19th of September or later. We do have a quick real estate tour on the morning of the 19th but we are done by 11:00 am. Drive time from Panama City to the international airport is roughly 35 minutes. You need to check-in for your flight 2 hours before departure, so based on your plan, you’ll need to watch the time. I provide airport transportation on both ends of the trip.
The trip is $3,000 for a couple or $1,800 for a single in a private room. We have had singles share a room before to bring the cost to $1,500 so let me know if you are interested in sharing a room and I’ll facilitate attempting to find a match for you. Nearly all meals are included, but not beer, wine, or liquor. All lodging, transportation (other than airfare), and activity/entrance fees are included in the tour fee. We have the same driver each day, who takes great care of us, so if you like the tour, please tip the driver. He’s great and not paid well by the transportation company I contract with. I cover all other gratuities, other than any tip you want to leave your housekeeper in the rooms in the various hotels we stay at.
You can see a sample itinerary for the tour here as well as sign up for the tour again if you are still interested, given the additional requirements listed above Costa Rica Panama Tour (pacificlots.com) Please confirm back if you want to join this tour even if you’ve recently submitted an application.
The tour includes all entry fees, all transportation within Costa Rica and Panama, all lodging, nearly all meals except if you want to eat on your own and on the day of your arrival at the Hotel Martino, where meals are on your own. Otherwise all meals are included, all national park fees and even airport transfers. For other tour dates, use this for a reference. Hotel choices may change based on availability since Covid19 has set some limits that we have to comply to.
These tours are mostly about tourism but we do see a smattering of real estate offerings in some of the more sought out destinations in both Costa Rica and Panama. Keep in mind however that the majority of the tour is simply tourism, with a few quick real estate viewings while in Jaco and Ojochal, Costa Rica and Panama City, Panama. We can add or subtract real estate touring based on interest by the group.
